Lotus. Origin: Asia; introduced into Europe in 1787. White, deep red, purplish and pind varieties exist, also many doubles. Used for indoor pools in temperate climates or outside tanks in Summer. The plant has been held sacred in India and China from very early times. The Buddhists see the Lotus as a symbol of Enlightenment. |
